Space Sunday Returns! Plus a Look at Siding Spring

Hey everyone, I know it’s been quiet around here for a little while. But, I wanted to let you know that Space Sunday is back, at least for now it is!

I hope you kept up on events since you got a chance to see a lunar eclipse. Next up there is that solar eclipse coming! But today; today is the day that Siding Spring comes by Mars. I wrote an article about this a few weeks back detailing what was known.

A brief review, the comet is passing the inner solar system for possibly its first time, or at least the first time in many millions of years. What makes this special is that it will be passing very close to Mars. NASA has even taken measures to make sure its space probes are on the far side of the planet when Mars moves through the dust trail. This gives us a chance to see what effects a comet can have on a planet when this close.

Now, you can watch live podcasts for this from different websites like slooh, space.com, and virtualtelescope.  I know its short, sorry, but lets just experience the history of today together!

Fingers crossed everybody! Let’s see something amazing today.
